About APMC

The Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) is a statutory market committee set up by the State Government for the trading of certain notified agricultural/horticultural/livestock products. The Agricultural Produce Market Committee was established on 15th January 1977 under the provisions of the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation and Development) Act, 1963. It is an institution under Section 12 of the Act. The main objectives of the establishment of the APMC are - to develop modern market yards for agricultural produce, regulate the marketing of agricultural produce, help farmers to get good prices for their produce, create infrastructure for the orderly development of trade, maintain and manage markets and determine the conditions for the use of markets in the market area. The committee has been set up for the purpose of regulating the marketing of agricultural and certain other products, establishing markets and for such incidental purposes. The said committee is required to regulate and supervise the marketing of agricultural produce in accordance with the provisions of the said Act, the rules made thereunder and the bye-laws of the Market Committee. It has powers to regulate the entry of persons and vehicles, to prevent adulteration and to promote and organize grading and standardization. The committee is required to collect, maintain and supply information on products as well as on storage, processing, prices and movement of notified agricultural products.
